Wayne County Drunk Driving
In most of the district court in Wayne County, the courts are reluctant to place a first time offender in jail. A limited number of district courts will review the master driving record for prior offenses outside the scope of time for enhancement purposes, however, and a person with a prior history of drunk driving offenses may face upwards of 60 days in these courts.
The docket pressure in Wayne County is sufficient enough to slow the court process in most districts. Even the most expedited dockets at certain Wayne County courts permit adequate time to prepare a defense compared to the fast-track provided by some Oakland County courts.
The 35th District Court in Plymouth recently instituted a "sobriety court," an intensive program designed to prevent relapse that acts as an alternative to the enhanced provisions of an OWI 2nd conviction. The 34th District Court in Romulus is currently exploring a similar program.
