Monroe County Drunk Driving
There is only one district court in Monroe County, located in downtown Monroe. There are only three district court judges in that court.
As a condition of bond on a pending drunk driving case, the defendant is usually ordered to provide daily PBT results to show that he or she is refraining from the use of alcohol. Occasionally, the court orders PBTs twice a day. The court does not impose strict time constraints on the defense in drunk driving cases, but cases are generally heard in a timely manner.
There is no automatic jail sentence for a first time offender, but the judges do not hesitate to order jail on a case-by-case basis. On a second offense, the court tends to incarcerate.
